Good Smile X Animate Cafe (Touken Ranbu)
If your Facebook feeds hasn't been flooded with Touken Ranbu updates and screen caps yet then your friends are likely not Otakus haha. My friends definitely are as I found the serie and characters being mentioned multiple times through my friend updates..
Touken ranbu is the new reverse Harem game to hit the top and it has quickly garnered a massive following. Touken Ranbu however, is fundamentally different from most reverse harem in the fact that A) the protagonist is not a frail damsel B) the boys are erm, not boys.
“Touken Ranbu (刀剣乱舞) is an online web browser game by DMM and Nitroplus. Players assume the role of a Saniwa sage (審神者) who travels into the past to defeat evil forces that are trying to change the course of history. As a sage, you have the ability to breathe life into inanimate objects, including famous historical swords. Your duty is to bring these blades to life, create an army, and defeat the enemies! “

I have yet to try the game out for myself because I’m just hopelessly boring like that (and I suck at games) but even I am tempted to try it!
Good Smile x Animate Cafe @ Nipponbashi (Osaka) and Akihabara (Tokyo) is currently having a Touken Ranbu Theme. Patrons are expected to not only pay for a time restricted meal but also to reserve in advance. And reservations are by balloting only, talk about exclusivity!
The menu features a good array of main meals such as Pasta and Omu Rice. It also has a nice variety of desserts and drinks to represent each different characters/swords. If I understood the poster above correctly, with each menu purchase, you get a complimentary paper coaster.
Miscellaneous merchandise such as badges , keychains and cups are also available. Each patron can only buy 5 of each items.
I accidentally stumbled upon the Cafe when I was in town the last weekend of March and decided to check it out.
The Good Smile x Animate Cafe in Denden Town is on level 2 of this very plain looking building. The building is on the left of the Animate store.
Do you see the red signboard on the door? It says every slot is full for the entire day! I really wanted to have my dinner there but alas ; (
Patrons are allowed in based on their reserved time slot. I saw a queue forming 15 minutes before the end of one batch.
I managed to snap some photographs and videos of the cafe from the animate store beside it, hope you guys will like it! If you can’t go in, at least you have some videos to make you feel better! Since Animate Cafe doesn't have a non photography policy, I guess this should be fine.
The interior is well lit with nice ambience lighting and tonnes of pictures of the characters from Touken Ranbu.
