Random Cosplay Tip #15: How to shorten a zipper

I'm sure we've all been there, you searched high and low for the perfect zipper only to find it too long or too short for your costume. It's a big problem if it's too short but if it's too long, here's a tip on how to shorten it !

And the only thing you need is a lighter.

This method will only work for plastic zippers and synthetic fabrics (burning of the edges). For metal zippers, I recommend you either stick a layer of cloth over the last 4-5 teeth or sew many rounds of threads around the teeth to stop the zipper head from going out.
